Powder on the Zugs

27.02.12 Nice day out yesterday with Markus and Christoph on the Zugspitze above Garmisch.
A day and night of wet snow left us with over 40cm of new snow up high in a (still) frigid atmosphere.

While the vast majority of this area isn't steep or very long, it is fine for a fun morning of powder. And our timing was perfect!

waiting for things to open

looks deep

smiles

getting tracks does take some work

nice view and maybe some new lines???
Last run down off the train to Eibsee wasn't bad either!

I'm looking forward to more fun days out here - there is so much to do.

Special Spring Ski Programs

This winter has been incredible as many of you well know. Now it's almost time to take advantage of the crazy spring conditions we are about to experience.

I have a few well selected items you should add to your agendas starting with:

Mt Etna Freeride ski adventure and moving on closer to home with the Zugspitze Arena fun and finally who is ready to tackle the challenge of skiing the Eiger? Intrigued, have a look below and book a ticket. There hasn't been a better time to pull the trigger than now...

Daniel 2332m - Lermoos, Austria

Had a little bit of free time this past Wednesday and decided to check out this great looking peak located above the town of Lermoos in Austria.
from the car

ready to roll

just like a postcard

final slopes

summit

looking back up

still a ways to go

The conditions seemed to be right and Christoph and I made plans to meet in Garmisch at the usual bakery.

It has been bloody cold the last week or so but today we were in a sheltered spot in the sun it felt nice to be a little warm for once.
The summit slopes weren't very good but once we hit the middle of the face the snow as pretty sweet - all the way down to the access road and the car.
Another nice day out.

Winter in the Alps part 2

Skiing on radar

That's what this week seemed like for a fair part of the week. That could mean one of two things:
1) you will really be needing those goggles
2) you will be skiing powder snow all the time

Ok, well actually we could see most of the time and no we didn't get fresh snow every night - but it was a really good mix between the two!

This past week I enjoyed skiing with Paul, Frank, Bard and Brian.

The skiing was some of the best in recent memories and as we said a few times during the trip "we set the bar pretty dang high"
Guys, I totally agree with you!

There is still some space on my off-piste week to Chamonix, so if you are on the fence - jump.

Au revoir,
Francis

Winter in the Alps part 1

Caution snowy slopes ahead...

There's this old French saying that I like a lot which goes like this: "Les annees se suivent mais ne se ressemblent pas" which means "The years go by but they do not resemble"
Nothing could be truer to the point than the difference from last winter to this winter.

This was already my 3rd trip to Cham this winter and not one of them has been disappointing.
This last trip started off with a bang and more snow just to keep the driving fun once again. I mean after 6 hours in the car what better way to stay awake then by driving snowy mountain passes?

The 1st week's adventure was loads of fun with friends from Geneva, Amandine and Alex. We enjoyed a superb week exploring which lifts were open and trying to see through the clouds.

So if you would like to catch up on the action, I have just a couple of spots left on my off-piste program to Chamonix. Join me - you'll be glad you did!
